For those pining away for the crack of the bat, the spitting of sunflower seeds, mustard on a foot long dog and the savoring of a semi-flat beer on a warm April day at the park, have no fear, yet another season of Major League Baseball is upon us. As we transition from Spring Training to MLB Opening Day, REALTOR.com takes you out to the ballpark in style, with a series of properties on the market that offer the personal diamond experience and allow you to root, root, root for the home team right from the comfort of one’s own backyard.
Tom Glavine’s Alpharetta, GA Manor

Starting things off in our home ballpark showcase is the $2 million manor of none other than former Atlanta Braves ace Tom Glavine. One of two Cy Young Award-winners to make the cut, Glavine’s Alpharetta, GA estate definitely lives up to Glavine’s All-Star billing with its sweet baseball diamond found on an elevated portion of the backyard. Other highlights of Glavine’s 10,222-square-foot digs include a full-size basketball court, indoor golf simulator and a two-story foyer.

Jeremy Roenick’s Scottsdale, AZ Compound

You might not expect a hockey legend to have a ball field in his own backyard, but that’s just one of many luxe amenities found within the confines of former standout center Jeremy Roenick’s Scottsdale, AZ compound. The former Chicago Blackhawks and Phoenix Coyotes player’s $11.7 million, resort-style property not only has a full-size baseball diamond, outfield fence to boot, but also a personal three-hole golf course.

John Smoltz’s Milton, GA Mega-Mansion

Like Glavine, John Smoltz is a Cy Young Award-winning pitcher who played for the Atlanta Braves, and like his former teammate, he has his very own ‘field of dreams’ out in the backyard. Unlike Glavine, Smoltz’s Milton, GA mansion takes things to the next level with what can only be referred to as a sportsman’s wet dream. Besides his own diamond, also found on the Smoltz property is an 18-hole golf course, separate tennis and basketball courts, a football field, jogging trail, and the amenity that every amateur or professional angler should have, a stocked fishing pond.

Walt Weiss’ Castle Rock, CO Estate

If you thought Smoltzy and his massive sportsman’s oasis of a backyard was impressive, check out this spectacular Castle Rock, CO spread of former Oakland Athletics and Colorado Rockies shortstop Walt Weiss. Weiss apparently spared no expense when it came to the baseball amenities found on the $3.999 million dollar estate, which now sports a pristine baseball park (home plate view at the top of the post) and an indoor batting cage.

Wiffle Ball Diamond in La Cañada Flintridge, CA

Ok, so we couldn’t find a fifth major leaguer to fill out our roster of homes with baseball diamonds and/or batting cages – Adrian Beltre allegedly has a batting cage, but listing photos of his Bradbury, CA estate do not confirm the existence of said amenity. Regardless, this particular home in La Cañada Flintridge, CA is a more than adequate fill-in thanks to an awesome wiffle ball diamond found out back. For anyone who knows the joy that is hitting a plastic ball with an iconic yellow bat, this $3.995 million home is sure to evoke a few fond backyard baseball memories.
